Patagonia Challenge 2011
Undertaken by : Jessica Fortin and Jérôme Lacasse
For the past two years, I have been working in the field of health prevention and promotion. Knowing that many young people and adults have one or several risk factors for cardiovascular disease has greatly affected me. What’s even more striking is that several of these factors can be diminished or eliminated simply by changing certain lifestyle habits. Busy lives and societal influences may make things difficult but anything is possible when we put our heart into it!
The promotion of physical activity is one of the main motivators behind planning such a challenge. The other is that a friend’s son received a heart transplant when he was just one year old. No parent or child should have to experience this. Fortunately, medical advances have increased the life expectancy of many people, but there is still much work to be done.
We will walk 130 km in Patagonia in December 2011 to raise funds for research. This will require a lot of work and planning, but we are sure that we will reach the objective we’ve set at $10,000! Your support will contribute to saving lives! We urge you to do your part, not only through donations, but by being more active every day. Every minute counts!
