Exploit du cœur Kilimandjaro 2015
Undertaken by: Jason Pelletier
Hello everyone! As a person who likes challenges and surpassing oneself, each year I participate in sports events to push my limits. To get prepared to these events, my motivation used to end to the pleasure of participation and the ambition to have a healthy lifestyle.
But on December 25, 2014, my life changed when my dad Daniel Pelletier suddenly died of a heart attack at the age of 57. It seems this was due to a genetic condition because his parents died the same way. During the 20 months before he passed away, my dad demonstrated profound courage, lots of motivation and tenacity and had made is loved ones proud of him. He left us from the top of the highest mountain he had ever climbed.
It’s the symbolism of the mountain, combined with the drive to make a difference and to ensure his leave don’t go unmentioned, that I’m collecting funds to climb the Kilimanjaro, Africa’s highest peak, to honour my dad and to give back from $2,000 to $5,000 to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, for which cause I want to be an ambassador.
It’s a major challenge, but my dad proved me anything is possible when you have faith. Setting objectives, living one day at a time and believing in you are lessons he taught is own way during the last months of his life. He’s my guardian angel, my guide in this adventure, and when I reach the summit, I will tell him a last goodbye, 6 km closer to him.
