This coming November 2nd, 2015 will be 10 years since my dad left us. In his memory, I decided to run the Oka 10 km race on Nov 1st and raise funds to benefit the Heart and Stroke Foundation. I am also running for my mom who had a severe heart attack almost 3 years ago. For me, my mom is the most courageous person. Having experienced what it is to have someone you love suffer from heart disease is a constant reminder of how life is so fragile. I am also doing this because I want to raise awareness on how to prevent heart disease. It took the paramedics 30 minutes to tell my mom she was having a major heart attack. She had all the symptoms, yet they did not even think of checking her heart until she mentioned chest pain. There is a lack of education surrounding the symptoms of a heart attack; yet cardiovascular disease is the number #1 killer for Canadians today.

Why running? Because it has become one of my biggest pleasures in life. I appreciate every time I get to run with a strong, beating heart. There is not one day that passes when I do not miss my dad. He was my hero. Throughout all my fears and triumphs in life he was always there to listen and guide me. He was there for my first upsets at school, my first break-up and my first day venturing on my own business with Philippe. He always knew what to say to uplift me. He was a positive spirit who lit up any circumstance with a funny joke. He had a real "joie de vivre" that was contagious. Every time I race I see him cheering me on. It brings me so much happiness to see his strong spirit in both Tristan and Jasmine.
